Is black nail polish trend back? The answer is yes, it is back. This is obvious from the Nina Ricci Spring 2010 fashion show. We noticed that the models are wearing short  slightly round manicure cut with black or very dark Gothic nail polish. So, if you are tired of the light palette, in spring 2010, you can try this bold black nail polish trend for a change.

Lady GaGa definately has one of the most eccentric fashion styles. We have selected some of her best fashion moments. From a Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2009 Couture corseted body suit with voluminous hips and the same padded detail on her shoulder she wore for the MTV Awards, to a black body con dress with spiked fingerless gloves and platinum bob.

Max Mara Spring 2010

October 4, 2009

Max Mara Spring 2010 fashion collection is meant for the grown-up city woman. Olive and khaki and the detailing found on trenchcoats, camp shirts, cargo pants, and parkas have a fashion bandwidth that can stretch to the classic. It’s influenced by the military push too. Materials are drapey satin coats over matching shirts and pants, suede trousers, pencil skirts recall of early-eighties working-woman style, a look that emanated from Italy and had a corresponding period of popularity in American sportswear. We can notice the retro style in the raglan sleeve—the curved version of the outsize shoulder that came fully furnished with a big set of pads.
MaxMara  kept to the straight and narrow with the pragmatic utilitarian daywear that is this company’s strong suit—though they did give in to the temptation to do a luxury camouflage patchwork coat and a strapless military evening gown.

Balenciaga Resort 2010

In his Resort 2010 collection, Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquière experiments with volume—as on a series of printed and embroidered frocks, ribbon scarves around the waist instead of a belt, pleate collars. The super-short tiered lampshade skirts аre the most daring from what we can see on the current round of shows and presentations. We cannot but notice also the woven leather sandal boots. Despite the extravagant models, there is plenty here that is time-tested. A pearl- and crystal-embroidered Cristobal Balenciaga Edition jacket from 1965 still looks fine now. So does a long black net and velvet dot evening coat that Balenciaga originally made in 1959.

Alexis Mabille couture fall 2009

July 23, 2009

Alexis Mabille is the young discovery at Paris couture—a fashion talent with a French sensibility, plenty of skill and a romantic touch. He is very good at creation of new ideas by merging old fashioned ways with new ones. For Fall 2009, he said he started by imagining a girl waking from a languorous night of dreams tangled in her bedclothes.  Apparently, she sleeps on exquisite white Swiss lace-edged linen pillowcases, shell-pink silken sheets, and luxuriously hand-worked cotton coverlets, which were variously cut into everything from fragile dresses to drapey tuxedos and togas.

Mabille’s knack is that he’s able to take the precious fabrics—weightless organdy, guipure, and elaborate broderie anglaise—and treat them with a degree of reality that defuses theoretical grandeur. “I wanted it to look loose and casual-fitting, so she can wear things with the attitude of pulling on a T-shirt,” he said. “I tried to play with simple graphic shapes, so everything floats. She’s not such a girly-girl.”
He’s certainly come a long way from the guy who does cute things with bows and bow ties. Now the bows are the basis of a large collection of bags, jewelry, and accessories—and are still evident in the satin sashes and shoe decorations sprinkled through the runway collection.

Elegant dresses by Bottega Veneta fall 2009

July 14, 2009

A very feminine collection of dresses and coats, fine fabrics freely following the curves of the bodies of gentle and warm colors of brown, rose, cream. Lingerie corseting built into the rib section of covered-up jersey dresses, outlining braless breasts, did that in an outrageously classy way. And then came a sequence of pleated goddess dresses, catching the air as the girls swept past.

The most desirable are the  fabrics, some of which are so refined even the camera can’t pick up the nuances. The second look out—a cream coat over a strapless dress—passed within inches of the audience, close enough to let them see that the coat was covered with a fine layer of organza, or realized the dress was not a matte cotton canvas but leather?

Tomas Maier’s, the designer shares that his main purpose was to let the woman out of the boring routine and with the weapon of irresistible glamor to make her feel pretty and attractive.

That’s Bottega Veneta – a secret fashion code far from public consumption.
