London is the new fashion capital according to the Global Language Monitor. London has overtaken New York City first place as the Top Global Fashion Capital for 2011. New York had reclaimed the crown from Milan last year.
For London’s first place contributed two fashion icons. First is Kate Middleton who married The British prince William and became the duchess of Cambridge. And the second event is the tragical death of British designer Alexander McQueen. The media interest focused on this two events.
London and New York were followed by Paris, Milano, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong. Barcelona, Singapore, Tokyo and Berlin rounded out the top ten. Previous to this, New York had been the top fashion capital for five years running. Berlin and Singapore broke into the Top Ten for the first time.

NEW YORK - New York has reclaimed the title of the world’s top fashion capital again after Milan has ended New York’s five-year reign as the world’s top fashion city last year. The annual poll suggested the top five fashion cities are seeing competition from Asia and Australia. The survey was made by the Global Language Monitor, a U.S. based non-profit group that tracks the frequency of words and phrases in the media, on the Internet and throughout the blogosphere.
Topping the list for 2010 are New York, Hong Kong, London, Paris, and Los Angeles. Milan, Sydney, Miami Barcelona and Madrid followed. This was the first time the two Iberian cities were ranked in the Top Ten. Top movers included Hong Kong, Madrid and Melbourne. In the battle for the Subcontinent Mumbai again outdistanced Delhi, while Sao Paulo continued its leadership over Rio, Buenos Aires and Mexico City in Latin America.

An incredible underwater fashion show was held in Seoul, South Korea for the grand opening of a new departmen store.

Corresponding to the new key period for Europe caused by the implementation of the Lisboa Strategy, the European fashion institution opens a new stage of the development and the endorsement of Europe in the world fashion leadership. By the implementation of intransient cultural values and the experience of the European Commission throughout the last decade, the Program “Fashion Europe” with its 127 activities, inseverably connected with education, culture, sport and charity is complemented and concretized for the achievement the European intercultural dialogue with the rest of the World.
By all rules of the elegant diplomacy and the diplomatic protocol with the unanimous decision of the 13 member-states, the European Fashion Council sent an invitation to the President of Republic of France Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy for his High Honorable Patronage for the forthcoming introduction of the program in the European Parliament in Strasburg and its approval and realization in benefit of United Europe.
Main motive for the choice of the charismatic personality of the President of France is his personal importance for the development of modern Europe combined with his energetic actions and personal views.
