Alexander Wang’s spring 2010 is all influenced by American sportswear probably due to his collaboration with Gap. His resort collection was filled with denim and khaki, and he continues with a sports theme again for Spring 2010.
“We want to create clothes that are timeless and classic,” commented Wang a few days before his show. In Alexander Wang’s Spring collection we can find classic gray sweatshirt fused with a corset, or cut short and boxy and worn over lace-up caramel leather shorts, leather jackets, ribbed athletic socks with cut-out backs tucked into tasseled wedgie loafers and rugged, zippered sandal boots. The teenage would definitely like the hooded and utilitarian outerwear pieced together made of nylon and army canvas.

Ripped denim is again in fashion for this year. We find it in Spring 2010 collections of fashion labels like D&G, Jean Paul Gaultier, Tao, Balmain, Just Cavalli.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s spring 2010 collection brings us to a wild and sexy trip to the American West with faded denim snap-front shirts, saddle-leather bustier dresses, ruffled mini strapless dresses, overall denim shorts, They all came flavoured with studded leather cowboy boots, fringed leather boots and bandannas.

Alexander Wang’s latest Resort collection is quite different from what he last showed. He moved forward from the ripped stockings and zip-up boots grunge fashion return. In this resort collection although it mainly consists of relaxed and comfortable cuts, there is a room for formal little black dresses, long formal attire and stylish suggestions. We can see his newfound interest in all-American sportswear—think chinos, chambray, denim, and T-shirts—to his experience collaborating with the Gap. He definately leaves his fingerprints in this Resort classics, pairing an almost-preppy nautical stripe sweater with a wrap skirt in midnight blue sequins or tweaking a traditional fisherman’s vest into a satin and mesh romper. The best of the bunch was a draped and wrapped number of dresses that exposes a lot of leg and nails that successfully made his signature.

Contemporary fashion industry would not be the same without the creative genius of Jean Paul Gaultier. His new men’s collection for spring 2010 proves his genius. Gaultier came out swinging with a graphic black-and-white sequence, which was followed by a hot-orange suit and peacoat. Then the show became embedded in Gaultier’s gender games. Usually, these are presented by a model casting that includes women as well as men, but perhaps it was budget reasons (or maybe just pure old perversity) that this time around dictated a denim bustier on a male model. (And as is always the case with Gaultier, he was but one in a cavalcade of the studliest mannequins in Paris.) And then there was a jacket whose shoulders were sheer Joan Crawford. That one was worn with a man bra. The striped cloche hat and sun-ray pleated skirt also felt defiantly feminine—and quite retro. Jean Paul Gaultier challenged once again the fashion industry and audience with his extremely stylish and extravagant concept.
