Max Mara Spring 2010 fashion collection is meant for the grown-up city woman. Olive and khaki and the detailing found on trenchcoats, camp shirts, cargo pants, and parkas have a fashion bandwidth that can stretch to the classic. It’s influenced by the military push too. Materials are drapey satin coats over matching shirts and pants, suede trousers, pencil skirts recall of early-eighties working-woman style, a look that emanated from Italy and had a corresponding period of popularity in American sportswear. We can notice the retro style in the raglan sleeve—the curved version of the outsize shoulder that came fully furnished with a big set of pads.

Marni collection for Spring 2010 gives us a different look of what we used to traditionally see on runway shows. To start with, the models wear a hippie head scarf tied over artfully disheveled hair; dangly flower earrings; a terra-cotta duster coat over odd, stripey leggings under wide floppy dresses. The trousers look more like pajamas. The colors are difficult to define – plaster pinks, mousy beiges, and rusty browns. You like the high-waisted, vertically striped knitted skirts, and write down “return of kitten heels.” The putty-colored sleeveless jackets remind of the military trend. The combination between dots and stripes might look more than tasteless to you, but let’s not forget it’s Haute Couture and anything is possible there.
