British designer John Galliano was suspended from the French fashion house Christian Dior after being alleged in verbally accosting a couple that was sitting at an outdoor café table in Paris. The 50-year-old designer John Galliano was caught on film shouting “I love Hitler” and making anti-Semitic remarks.
Galliano was briefly detained by the police, who found that he had been drinking alcohol.
Christian Dior president Sidney Toledano confirmed that Galliano has been suspended from the house until police conclude their investigation of the incident.
Jean Paul Gaultier, a potential Dior successor, has spoken in defence of Galliano. “It’s sad, because he was an enormous talent,” Gaultier told the AFP after his latest show.
Selfridges is presently reviewing the future of John Galliano collections in all its stores.
