The butterfly seems to be the new emblem of fashionable clothing for spring/summer 2009 .
Butterflies can symbolize many things – from the hope of resurrection, to the reminder of the ephemerality of life. We suggest that you view them as a symbol of beauty, femininity, and the ability to be ever-changing. Cellette Dinnigan’s collection was littered with flowing, gently ruffled pieces in lilac butterfly prints, while the butterfly motif in Tibi’s collection were a perfect compliment to the cocoon skirts and oriental collars. Diane von Furstenberg and Badgley Mischka also used butterfly themes in their Spring/Summer collections.

Tips for wearing
Avoid the kitchy. If you decide to dabble in butterflies in the coming warmer seasons, ensure they remain delicate, elegant and sophisticated; feminine but not too girly.
