Christian Louboutin has brought out an extreme pair of ruffle python stiletto almost 5 inch heels for spring. I do not know who will buy these, but they are over the top in every way. The platform heel, the large rose ruffle, the python skin. This almost $3,000 shoe is too crazy for words. For all your Christian Louboutin fans, I say take a look at this pair and buy a more practical pair. Leave this pair for Kim Kardashian or Victoria Beckham.

Turquoise fashion color trend 2009

July 27, 2009

Turquoise seem to have become the hottest hue of the season. We can find this pretty blue-green color in everything from shoes to bags, jewellry and accessories.

Because turquoise flatters all skin tones, turquoise clothing and accessories are good additions to any woman’s wardrobe. The best color combinations to go with turquoise are brown for an earthy, sunny look, black for a more sophisticated palette, and white for a cool feeling on a hot summer day.

Color accents that look good with turquoise and work well for accessorizing include lime green, red, purple, and yellow. By changing your accessory colors, you can create many very different looks when you wear turquoise clothing.

Turquoise fashion appeared on numerous designer runways for summer 2009.

Alexis Mabille couture fall 2009

July 23, 2009

Alexis Mabille is the young discovery at Paris couture—a fashion talent with a French sensibility, plenty of skill and a romantic touch. He is very good at creation of new ideas by merging old fashioned ways with new ones. For Fall 2009, he said he started by imagining a girl waking from a languorous night of dreams tangled in her bedclothes.  Apparently, she sleeps on exquisite white Swiss lace-edged linen pillowcases, shell-pink silken sheets, and luxuriously hand-worked cotton coverlets, which were variously cut into everything from fragile dresses to drapey tuxedos and togas.

Mabille’s knack is that he’s able to take the precious fabrics—weightless organdy, guipure, and elaborate broderie anglaise—and treat them with a degree of reality that defuses theoretical grandeur. “I wanted it to look loose and casual-fitting, so she can wear things with the attitude of pulling on a T-shirt,” he said. “I tried to play with simple graphic shapes, so everything floats. She’s not such a girly-girl.”
He’s certainly come a long way from the guy who does cute things with bows and bow ties. Now the bows are the basis of a large collection of bags, jewelry, and accessories—and are still evident in the satin sashes and shoe decorations sprinkled through the runway collection.

London fashion week and Luella collection autumn – winter 2009-2010

July 21, 2009

At the London fashion week,  designer Luella Bartley launched a collection inspired by school uniforms, with a touch of British punk and military style. It has a very practical side with beautiful accessories like zippers and zip fasteners in artistic shapes and a mixture of sheer fabrics with other ones.
We expect to see the English young ladies wearing these garments soon. English It-girls include Alexa Chung, Daisy Lowe, or the Geldof sisters (the younger of them presented Luella collection). It is very likely we will see them wearing some of the tweed, classic-cut coats or Prince of Wales checked coats or those ones who dare to put on the lovely mini dresses that were shown at the London Fashion Week.

Other memorable looks from the collection are the velvet jacket with tailored pants, the trench in  shades of red with a sort of blue leggings and lovely patterned cardigan with a classic checked pencil skirt that has zippers that adorn it.

Crystal-bedecked gold stockings are one of the memorable looks of the collection. They add an extravagant and elegant touch in a punk style for the most preppy looks.

Emma Watson fashion icon

July 15, 2009

Emma Watson’s transformation from gawky student to a fashion lady is not due to a magic. The 19-year-old Brit first appeared as Hermione in the hugely successful Harry Potter movie. She’s told Teen Vogue that she does not use stylists because “there’s nothing interesting about looking perfect.” She might be right and still she looks perfect as we can judge by the photographs in the last couple of months. She has been seen in  Rodarte and Proenza Schouler, as well as, most recently, vintage Ossie Clark.

And those red-carpet choices have caught the attention of serious fashion designers. Karl Lagerfeld photographed her as a nun for the French magazine Crash. Chanel,  Miu Miu, Alice Temperley, and Burberry are among Emma’s other fashion house favorites.

Rodarte ready to wear fall 2009

Behind Rodarte label stand sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy. They came from Pasadena, California, to New York in 2005 with just two suitcases. A week after arriving, they had presented their collection, tagged Rodarte after their mother’s maiden name, to almost every major fashion editor and retail buyer. What is their key to success? Tenacity and talent. The Mulleavys labor over every detail of their meticulous, romantic dresses. They intricate hand-stitching as well as other old-world couture techniques. Still a relatively new label, Rodarte has scored the Mulleavys the 2008 CFDA Swarovski Emerging Womenswear Designer award, the 2008 Swiss Textiles Award, and quite an industry following, including Old Guard lions like Karl Lagerfeld and Christian Louboutin. The seduction of their craft is in the lightness of their touch.

Elegant dresses by Bottega Veneta fall 2009

July 14, 2009

A very feminine collection of dresses and coats, fine fabrics freely following the curves of the bodies of gentle and warm colors of brown, rose, cream. Lingerie corseting built into the rib section of covered-up jersey dresses, outlining braless breasts, did that in an outrageously classy way. And then came a sequence of pleated goddess dresses, catching the air as the girls swept past.

The most desirable are the  fabrics, some of which are so refined even the camera can’t pick up the nuances. The second look out—a cream coat over a strapless dress—passed within inches of the audience, close enough to let them see that the coat was covered with a fine layer of organza, or realized the dress was not a matte cotton canvas but leather?

Tomas Maier’s, the designer shares that his main purpose was to let the woman out of the boring routine and with the weapon of irresistible glamor to make her feel pretty and attractive.

That’s Bottega Veneta – a secret fashion code far from public consumption.

Black lace dresses by Valentino fall 2009

July 9, 2009

The former designers of Valentino’s accessories Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli made a start in the fashion milieu last season. Their beginning was a hard one since the collection had quite an oldfashioned look. But the collection we observe today is quite a pretty one with plenty of black laced, ruffled dresses and layers. Of course we cannot but comment on the boxy coats that seem to have come out of an ancient world again and the presense of too many evening dresses. But as a whole it is a pretty nice and feminine collection of Valentino. We look forward to the next work of the two designers.
