Butterfly prints – fashion trend spring/summer 2009

March 31, 2009

The butterfly seems to be the new emblem of fashionable clothing for spring/summer 2009 .

Butterflies can symbolize many things – from the hope of resurrection, to the reminder of the ephemerality of life. We suggest that you view them as a symbol of beauty, femininity, and the ability to be ever-changing.  Cellette Dinnigan’s collection was littered with flowing, gently ruffled pieces in lilac butterfly prints, while the butterfly motif in Tibi’s collection  were a perfect compliment to the cocoon skirts and oriental collars. Diane von Furstenberg and Badgley Mischka also used butterfly themes in their Spring/Summer collections.

Tips for wearing

Avoid the kitchy. If you decide to dabble in butterflies in the coming warmer seasons, ensure they remain delicate, elegant and sophisticated; feminine but not too girly.

How to shape eyebrows

You can only work with what you have

One thing you should remember when you shape your eyebrows is that you can only work with what you have.  The model eyebrows are fairly thin on the ends and  rather straight.  You can shape them up a bit without extremely arching them.

Where the Eyebrow Begins

Where should the Eyebrow Begins

The general rule is that if you took a ruler to the inner corner of your eye, that is about where the eyebrow should begin. If you like a more natural look, you can always leave more hair.

Eyebrow Shaping Tips:

  • For eyes far apart, leave a few extra hairs outside of the above line towards the nose of to make eyes look closer.
  • For eyes too close together, leave a few extra hairs inside of the above line towards the eyes, to make them “appear” farther.

How to Arch Eyebrows

How to Arch your Eyebrows

Deciding how to arch eyebrows is the most difficult and important part of designing the brow. Since the model has small eyeilds, a small arch is a good solution.

When you place a ruler on tip of her nose as a reference, and taking the ruler over her pupil brings me to a section of her brow that you see above. This is going to be the “peak” of her arch.

Another reference point is the top of the nostril, still aiming for over the middle of the pupil for a medium arch, but the far side of the pupil for a large arch. (Tip: right nostril for right eye, left nostril for left eye).

Place the end of a ruler at the side of the nose and put on the corner of the eye, this is where the brow should end.

Start with trmming the eyebrows.

Brush your eyebrows straight up, and if there are any hairs longer coming out of your natural shape on top, then trim it.

Use a fine-tooth regular comb or an eyebrow brush to push eyebrow hair up, and then just trim what is outside the shape with small scissors (preferably eyebrow scissors).

Create eyebrows according to your tase choosing exactly which hair you will be removing. If you’re not sure, apply a concealer or a white eyeliner on the hairs that will be removed.

Eyebrow Arching and Shaping Tips:

If you remve hair off the top of the eyebrow, don’t go into the main shape. Just take out the excess hairs.

This is the final result of our work together. The right eyebrow is the one we worked on. You can compared it to the one on our left that hasn’t had any work. You can find the difference yourself!

Once you have decided on the exact shape you like, the maintenance will be easy.
